LOUD SOUNDS

JESUS CHRYSLER
AN UNAUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY

JESUS CHRYSLER This is a great band that I've had the pleasure of working with on and off for the last seven years!!! From their first incarnation to the present line up, I've had an absolute blast with this BOSTON based band. The band formed in 1990 with aspirations of playing original music and seeking recognition on a national level. Shortly after forming I recieved a phone call from Tony Tanguay, the bands drummer, and he's estatic about this new guy they found through an ad,ED FERNALD,and with good reason. Ed is an incredible talent. His vocal range seems to be limitless. From the first time I heard the band I was blown away! Now this is the kind of band I had always wished to work with! Even in the early days the material had weight. Tight, explosive and just the right edge to seperate this band from all the bland, Def Leppard type, crap that was plauging the club scene and the airwaves. The original moniker for the group was LOCOMOTIVE, and what an approriate name it was! Anybody who had seen the band live could attest to that. When they hit the stage it was apparent these boys were all buisness. Relentless rehearsing had really paid off. After many shows and several trys at home recording, which yeilded a couple tunes that got the boys some airplay in Boston, the band grew tighter and decided it was time to get into a serious recording studio. They chose Newbury Sound located in Boston and recorded several tracks of powerful yet soulful music. With Drew Townsend at the helm, engineering and producing, the boys did several 12 hour lockouts and walked away with an excellent product. Some of their best tunes to date were done here. Mary Brown still remains my favorite. You Can't Hide, Life Is Good, Better Off Dead, and several others were also done during these sessions. Newbury had a 24-track Analog console to 2-inch tape. Then everything was mastered digitally. The atmosphere in the studio was a little bit stale, but very relaxed and professional. Drew is a really laid back guy and very easy to get along with. He had lot's of great ideas but never interfered with the way the band wanted things to come out. Most of the music was done live with a scratch lead vocal, then a few leads and backup vocals were added later. When Loco went into the studio most songs were well rehearsed and very little time was wasted. Shortly after completing the sessions they decided the name LOCOMOTIVE was labeling the band as being too heavy. JESUS CHRYSLER is born. Few groups ever acheive the tightness and consistency, show after show, that Jesus Chrysler had, and still do today. With Ed on guitar and lead vocals, RICH LECLERC on lead guitar and vocals, and the unbeliveably tight rythym section of TONY TANGUAY on drums and vocals and JOE BARNA on bass and vocals, the band sets its sights higher. They do shows all over New England hoping for some sort of break. Regular Appearences at Mama Kin's in Boston,The Rat, and several Seacoast area clubs help to gain a loyal following, and many familiar faces can be seen at most gigs. An annual benefit by the Boston Harleys Owners Group to raise money for the Ronald McDonald house had grown from 250 people to 7500 in just 3 years. A trip to Manhattans' legendary dive, CBGB's, goes well. They even get the thumbs up from former Allman Brothers' guitarist Warren Haynes, who stopped by the club after taping a performance on the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN. The band continues to play out and record a couple more times throughout the next year or so. But internal turmoil between members on a professional level has started to take it's toll. Personal aggendas for all involved are conflicting with band aggendas. After months of struggling to keep it together Rich and Joe leave the group. But Ed and Tony are detirmined to go on. They begin rehearsing with a new bass player and guitarist, and do a few more shows. But something is not clicking. Enter Ed's brother Brian to fill the vacant guitar spot. Brian has a genuine excitement towards being as he put's it, "playing in a real band". And now Joe has rejoined the group, and has brought back the definitive edge to the rythym section the group had lacked for awhile. After months of trying to hang on Tony has now left the group. Jesus Chrysler has moved from Amesbury MA to Haverhill into a new rehersal space. Hopefully the change of location will help them find a new drummer and spark them back into the groove...The story continues......UPDATE!!!!!!!!! Rumor from a good source(me) has leaked that Ed, and Rich and Tony are talking again... could there be a reuinion in the works??????..... STAY TUNED.
